Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Panic disorder usually develops from anxiety disorder, and
it is a highly debilitating condition that requires medical
attention. If you're serious about overcoming anxiety and panic
attacks, then you need to make sure that the treatment you seek
is well-constructed, not misguided, otherwise you could suffer
from complete social withdrawal, which can affect your entire
life. Often times, panic disorder can bring about depression,
due to the lack of general well-being. However, depressions
usually subsides once the underlying cause of the panic
disorder is treated.
Panic attacks can occur while you're awake or asleep, even
during deep sleep. Most attacks can range from a couple of
minutes to 10 minutes, and often times, the victim feels like
they are going to die. It is an unbearable feeling and even a
30 seconds can seem to be an eternity. It is generally a
psychological and physiological condition, however, it can
occur with physical symptoms only, which is regarded as
nonfearful panic. During nonfearful panic, there are many
physical changes that can be observed, even though fear and
anxiety may not be present. This type of conditon is still
considered to be a panic disorder, and if you experience these
symptoms, then medication may be the best option.
Overcoming anxiety and panic attacks is not easy, especially
if the condition is complex and evolved. For example,
individuals that suffer from panic disorder frequently have
situationaly predisposed panic attacks and agoraphobia. Certain
situations, places and settings may bring about an unbearable
fear and excessive anxiety, at times for no apparent reason.
This can cause the individual to avoid leaving the house and to
withdraw from external settings completely. About 26% of
individuals with panic disorder have agoraphobia as well.
In order to overcome any disorder, you have to take a
holistic approach that addresses biological and psychological
issues. For the sake of analysis and academic study, it is okay
to approach each issue separately, but in order to treat a real
patient with a real condition, experiments should not be
conducted and the best possible methodology should be
applied.
Basic treatment of anxiety and panic disorder involves
medication, either prescription or herbal, and some sort of
psychotherapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a specific type
of psychotherapy that teaches people how to behave differently
during an attack by viewing it, perceiving it with different
thoughts and ideas. It is also effective in reducing
anxiety.
Other methods for overcoming this disorder is to use
breathing and relaxation techniques in conjunction with
meditation, and by making accomodations at home and other
places, when possible, to reduce the sources of stress and
environmental stimuli that may be linked to the attacks. By
utilizing all of these means, you can increase the chances of
overcoming anxiety and panic attacks.
